Carla De Leon was born in Monterrey, Mexico and was an exchange student in Dallas during her younger years. She attended law school in the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterry, Mexico where she received her first law degree. During her time in law school, Carla attended the evening program and made the Dean's List, while working a full-time job. As a law student, she clerked at a Civil District Court and later landed a student associate position at one of the largest Mexican law firms.
Her proficiency in English and studies abroad came in handy when Carla represented U.S. corporations doing business transactions in the Northern States of Mexico. After graduation, Carla practiced commercial litigation where she identified the tremendous need for an attorney that could not only speak Spanish and English at a social level, but one that could practice law on both sides of the border. Since then, Carla has been committed to obtaining the legal education, credentials, and capacity for understanding and explaining the differences between the U.S. and Mexican business cultures and judicial process.
Carla decided to return to Dallas to pursue her second law degree at Southern Methodist University. During her tenure at SMU, Carla received several scholarships and awards promoting diversity in the campus and served as treasurer of the Hispanic Law Students Association. Carla received her Juris Doctorate degree from SMU. She is proud to have completed the evening program while working full-time as a bilingual educator.
Since working at the Law Offices of Eric Cedillo, Carla has helped clients in the areas of immigration law, personal injury, and family law. Carla’s personal experience has led her to a passion for immigration law. Her teaching background prepared Carla to be a liaison and zealous advocate for young students applying for work permits under President Obama’s Deferred Action Relief. Serving the Latino Community through advocacy is Carla’s professional commitment.
Throughout his legal career, Eric has continued to advocate on the side of victims and their rights. He has represented the Plaintiff’s side in numerous pre-litigation claims, as well as taking several cases through litigation and into trials by juries.
For the past 8 years, Eric has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the SMU Dedman School of Law where he has run the Consumer Advocacy Clinic and worked as a supervising attorney in this civil clinic. "The clinic has been very close to my heart. Our law students have done a wonderful job in representing our clients while doing a tremendous service to the community at large," says Eric. "We find it incredibly gratifying to help those who find it difficult to solely help themselves.
Throughout his legal career, Eric has been a member of numerous organizations geared toward the representation of Plaintiff’s in civil matters and representing the continued right to trial by jury. Including and in addition to these are the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, State Bar College, Dallas Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association, and America Bar Association. Eric has also been a barrister in the Mac Taylor Inn of Court.
Feel confident working with our experienced attorneys for any legal case.
